Halloween Party 2009 Reminder
It's getting toward that time of the year and once again we will be hosting a Halloween Party. This year it will be on Saturday, October 31. For those of you coming in from out of town just be sure we know ahead of time so that we can make whatever arrangements for airport pickups and such. The evening events will begin at 7pm Saturday night with the usual festivities. I will be emailing out the picture invitation shortly so if you don't get one, just remind me! -Walks | | Monday, November 17th, 2008 | | 5:47 pm |

Halloween Party 2008!
It's getting toward that time of the year and once again we will be hosting a Halloween Party. This year it will be the weekend of Friday, October 31 through Sunday November 2. The party itself will be on Saturday like normal. For those of you coming in from out of town just be sure we know ahead of time so that we can make whatever arrangements for airport pickups and such. The evening events will begin at 7pm Saturday night with the usual festivities. The riddle event last year went well aside from some technical difficulties with easily seeing other people finding clues. This year we should have more space for the events (all three floors) and I may modify the event or I may change the event to extend beyond the boundaries of the house to include the city as well. In which case there would be teams and would need to begin through the day on Saturday. Further details will be posted as we have them. -Walks | | Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 | | 10:05 am |

Yesterday (Monday) we knew we were going to need a few more bags of plaster, and were hoping that the specialty places in town would have them. Ya know, the type of building supply companies that only work M-F 7:30-5 because they typically sell to contractors... So, I get up with the intention of stopping by them on the way into work. And... no plaster. Of course not, what was I thinking ;p So after asking for the day off from work I called around looking for more plaster. I knew a store in PA would have some but that would have been 4 hours of driving each way, so I started at Columbus and worked my way outward. Closest place I could find some was 2.5-3 hours north at the border with Michigan. My apologies to everyone we know in Michigan for touching your state and then running back down here without saying hello, we just didn't have the time as our plasterer has a flight early Wed morning. | | Sunday, January 20th, 2008 | | 10:42 pm |
More misadventures with a basement!
Just a short note for now, but thought most would find this amusing. Plaster purchased in Pennsylvania, picked up West Virginia to be used in a basement in an Ohio home by a professional plasterer that flew in from Cape Cod. Yes, that is how the weekend has been ;) | | Monday, January 7th, 2008 | | 9:59 am |

What has been taking up the wolf's time? http://picasaweb.google.com/walksamongstars/BasementOnce I get a chance I will upload a layout or floorplan to give an idea of size, but for those of you that have been to the house the basement is pretty much the same as the first floor. When you come down the stairs, you're under the foyer area. The 'laundry' room is under the first floor bathroom and foyer under the door. The 'main' room of the basement is under the front room and the current gaming/dining room. The 'back' room of the basement is under the great room. What will be the bathroom downstairs under the kitchen. And the 'middle' bit that is left is the utility area. | | Monday, October 8th, 2007 | | 11:37 am |
Halloween Party 2007!
As I don't have emails for everyone, I'm also making a post here to announce the annual Halloween party for this year. As always, it is on the Saturday before the last day of the month, so that makes it Saturday, October 27th this year. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post here or to contact myself or Kitt directly. -Walks | | Friday, May 18th, 2007 | | 9:09 am |
Pictures are up and a quick summary. http://picasaweb.google.com/walksamongstars/GreecePicturesI've uploaded the pictures from the recent trip out of the country. I will probably add/edit captions as I can and have time. Meanwhile.. a brief overview: Monday - Flights Tuesday - Arrived about 9am Greece time. Checked into the hotel at the airport (Sofitel) and took a few hour nap as I had to work that afternoon. Picked up a rental car and drove from the airport to a small town on the coast named Lavrion. Worked for a few hours until about 9 or 10 pm that night then went back to the airport and had dinner with Kitt who had mostly been sleeping. Wednesday - Was hoping things would be quick with work in the morning, but ran into some issues (hence, why I was there in the first place) and worked until about 2pm. Largely the country is very slow and laid back (except when they are driving) and shuts down for a few hours for lunch so I had a 2.5 hour meal with the people I was working with. Afterward I went back and gave a demo. Once that was over went back to the airport and grabbed Kitt. We drove back down along the coast, looking at the countryside, the sea, and made our way to the Temple of Poseidon at sunset. Thursday - Had to finish off work for the morning, got done around 2pm and talked my way out of lunch thankfully. Got back to the airport to pickup the sleeping Kitt and made a car driving pilgrimage to Delphi, about 3 hours to the west/northwest. Along the way saw a few other smaller ruins. Arrived at delphi around sunset then hung around the nearby mountain town to look at the shops and eat dinner. Got back to the hotel about midnight. Friday - Took the metro into Athens from the airport. Spend the entire day walking around and seeing the sites. Largely this is all in the pictures, but we saw a large number of smaller things, but the main points of interest were the Acropolis/Temple of Athena/Temple of Hephestas/Temple of Zeus/Roman Agora/Aphitheater/National Museum. Saturday - Flights back to the US. | | Monday, May 7th, 2007 | | 1:14 am |
Incommunicado for about 9 days
I will be out of touch (effectively) for a few days as I will be out of the country. I will most likely have occasional access to email but that will be all. -Walks | | Wednesday, April 18th, 2007 | | 1:33 pm |
How NOT to write code.
class X { int X; X(int X) { this(X,X++); this.X=X; } X(int X, int XX) { this.X+=XX+=this.X+X++; } int X(int X) { X(this); return X; } X X(X X) { X.X+=++x.XX; return new X(X.X); } } public class x { static int XX; public static void main(String[] XXX) { X X = new X( (new X(++x.XX)).X ); X(X.X(X.X)); X(X.X(X).X); X(X(X.X(X))); } // method main static int X(X X) {return X.X;} public static void X(int X) {System.out.println(X);} } | | Monday, April 16th, 2007 | | 10:53 am |
Something to think about.
It is the nature of man to dream - to aspire. One of the quintessential aspects that define sentience. What exists after the dreaming? Without such a lens to focus us we are left to existence but not living. Imagine if you ran out of dreams at one point because they had all been captured. The things that have since replaced them no longer have the same feeling - a tangibleness of "to-dos" rather than visions out of reach. Take some young person in early 20th century Europe wishing to cross that great ocean. Their dream is to one day live in America. They may eventually reach their dream, but to them it is a dream that they chase. What happens when your dreams all become concrete? It is like saying "my dream is to cross that street outside the window" when you know you can do it. A portion of it is how the world works, in the loss of the innocent and naivety of the childhood to take on the responsibilities of the adult. Beyond the reason of 'growing up' it also has to do with the tendency that you don't make dreams over things that are easy. | | Thursday, November 9th, 2006 | | 5:13 pm |
Dear Santa...
Dear Santa,
This year I've been busy!
In August I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). Last Wednesday I pulled over and changed camstone's flat tire (15 points). In January I ruled Iran as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). Last week I donated bone marrow to wesperowik_ in a life-saving procedure (300 points). In June I gave arcticwlf a kidney (1000 points).
Overall, I've been nice (2016 points). For Christmas I deserve a shiny red ball!

The 1001base2 Algorithmic Nights: The MapMummy’s Curse
"He that enters the tomb will be eternally lost." Those were the words carved into the stone door guarding the burial chamber. I, Alquid of the city of Ginae, write these words to whomever shall find this journal. Fye upon me, for I was a grave robber. For that I must now suffer a curse and hope that such a fate as mine does not fall upon another man. ( Read more... ) | | Monday, February 20th, 2006 | | 2:12 pm |
The 1001base2 Algorithmic Nights: The tale of the tree of life
In the beginning, at the very center of the world there was a seed. The ground protected the seed for many years until it started to grow. As the seed grew it began to nourish to world and the plant that emerged was called the tree of life. While the tree lives, life will continue to flourish and prosper, even under harsh conditions. It is said that in the farthest corner of the desert there is an oasis like any other. This oasis contains the temple of the tree of life, protecting an exposed portion of the tree that had found its way to the surface. Many stories have said that because the tree is eternal, partaking of its bounty would make one live forever. Although many have sought this power, none have returned to give word if the legends hold true. ( Read more... ) |
